In fact, I argue that the story of Icarus is a tragedy in its own right, one that purges our passions through catharsis.

Rather, he was an instrument used to punish his father Daedalus, who had premeditated the crime of murdering his nephew Talus. The tragic flaw in this story is therefore not Icarus's but his father's.
